Devlog #005: Pauses, Spaghetti Code, and Getting Ready for the Beta Feed

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since the last update, and I want to give you a transparent look at where Katze Social stands right now.

Lately, the project has been on a bit of a pause. Between juggling intensive work on other projects and managing a mountain of responsibilities behind the scenes, my time has been pulled in a few different directions. On top of that, the business model is getting a full restructuring, meaning right now there are a lot more administrative shifts happening under the hood than anything else.

Working heavily on my own independent projects like Chocola (seome web technology I'm developing) has eaten up a good chunk of my time, but to be fair, pushing through those challenges has seriously leveled up my technical quality and engineering standards. Even with all these moving parts, the core vision of Katze hasn't shifted an inch — if anything, taking a step back has given me a clearer perspective on what needs to happen next.

Cleaning Up the Spaghetti

To be completely honest with you: as development pushed forward at breakneck speed earlier this year, the frontend code turned into a bit of a spaghetti mess. When you're building fast and iterating constantly, it’s easy for things to get tangled under the hood.

Because of that, my immediate priority right now isn't adding massive new features—it’s reviewing, refactoring, and cleaning up the codebase. I’m going through everything to strip out redundant logic, streamline components, and ensure the foundation is clean, maintainable, and rock-solid before we open the doors to anyone else. A messy foundation only slows you down later, so I'm taking the time to fix it right now.

What’s Next: Feeds and Profile Features

Once this cleanup phase is wrapped up, the laser focus shifts directly to the components we need most for the upcoming closed beta.

Right now, the absolute top priority for the beta build is getting the feeds fully functional and polishing up key features for user profiles. A social platform isn't really a social platform without a smooth, responsive feed to explore content and robust profile options to make your space your own. Those are the final major puzzle pieces standing between us and the initial beta rollout.
